Traccar GPS Tracking Software - Setup#
To set up your own managed instance of Traccar, sign into your Ametnes Cloud Platform account here.
Tip
If you do not have an account yet, create one here.
Create the service.#
- Using the Services left menu, navigate to the service management dashboard.
- Click New Service.
- Enter the Traccar to filter from the list and select Configure on the list item.
- In the displayed form, enter the following info.
- Enter the Name:
Traccar-Service
and Description:Traccar-Service
. - Select the Protocols:
OSMAND Protocol
. - Check the Public checkbox.
- Click
Create
. - Wait a short while and your data service will be
ready
.
- Enter the Name:
Warning
You may receive an error indicating that your account is still being setup. If this happens, please wait about 10-15 minutes and try again.
Tip
Traccar supports a multitude of protocols. The OsmAnd protocol selected here can be tested with regular smartphones.
Testing the Service#
Register your Account#
Once the service is fully created and in ready
state, you can easily test it by connecting your smart phone to your traccar instance.
Access your service's admin page.#
- Using the Services left menu, navigate to the service management dashboard.
- Click Admin button next to your ready service. You will navigate to the service's Admin page.
At the bottom of the page, you'll find the service's attributes#
- Copy the host corresponding to the port 443.
- Paste into your web browser. You'll be prompted to register your account.
- Register your account with your Name, Email and Password.
Installing your Traccar Client#
- Download the Traccar client to your phone by searching for Traccar in your smartphone's app store.
- In the client app, enter Server URL in the format
http://<server-url-from-the-admin-page>:<osmand-port-from-admin-page
Register your Client with Traccar#
Finally, you need to register your client with your Traccar instance by;
- Note the Device identifier from your smartphone.
- In your traccar webpage, click the
+
button. A register device page shows up; - Name your device
- Enter the identifier from your smartphone app.
- After a short while, you should see your location on the Traccar web page.
Tip
If you do not see your page update, trying change the state of your Traccar smart client off and then back on again.
